Who needs a bass drum head to advertise the name of the band when you own a Super Beatle?
The Readings hailed from Illinois. Starting at upper left, the members were Mike Mayfield (bass), Roger Jones (playing a Vox Mark VI Thinline Acoustic teardrop guitar through a Super Beatle), Kent Jackson (playing a Vox Phantom VI through a Vox Buckingham amplifier), and Dave Smith. The front row consisted of Tom Tipsworth (organ) and Robert Potter (drums).
The Readings changed their name to "Charlie Brown's All Stars" in 1967." The new band name must have had too many words to fit on the front of a Super Beatle speaker cabinet. A picture of Charlie Brown now graced the front of the amp, as evidenced by the photo below.
I might also add that Roger Jones was one lucky guy to own both a Super Beatle and a top line Vox electric guitar at such a young age!
Do you have a picture of your 1960s band featuring Vox gear? Email the picture to me at voxshowroom@aol.com as a jpeg image and I will add your band to the Vox Showroom "My Vox Band" gallery.
