First introduced to the US market in the fall of 2015, the VT20X was the replacement for the Vox VT20+. The VT20X had one 8" Vox speaker in a closed back, bass reflex MDF enclosure.

Analog/Digital Preamp Section Including a 12AX7 Tube
Valvetronix amplifiers have always featured a digital preamp section that included a plethora of amp models and digital effects. This was still the case with the Vox VT20X amplifier, but the VT20X added a 12AX7 (ECC83) to the preamp circuit to further recreate the tone of a tube amp.

An illuminated push button on the VT20X control panel allowed the 12AX7 tube to be manually selected between Class A (self biased) or Class AB (fixed biased) modes. A second illuminated push button allowed the 12AX7 to toggle between a "cool" bias voltage for cleaner tones and "hot" bias voltage for greater overdrive.

All previous Valvetronix amps used a 12AX7 in the Valve Reactor power amp. The VT20X moved the 12AX7 to the preamp section.

Amp Modeling Using Virtual Element Technology
The VT20X also featured an improved digital amplifier modeling engine called VET, or Virtual Element Technology. VET didn't just aim to just get the "essence" of the tone of the world's most iconic guitar amplifiers, it modeled how the electronic components and circuit designs interract in these classic amps.

Eleven VET amp models were included: Deluxe, Classic Tweed 4x10, Vox AC30, Boutique OD, Vox AC30TB, Brit 800, Brit Or MkII, Double Rectifier, Boutique Classic, Brit 1959, Boutique Metal. To further increase tonal flexibility, Vox provided three selectable tone presets for each of the eleven amp models plus storage for eight user programs.

Manual/Present Mode
An illuminated push button allowed the selection of either the Manual or Preset modes. In Manual mode, the controls operate conventionally. In Preset mode, the amp automatically adjusts all of the controls to preset stored parameters.

Effects
The VT20X included three groups of effects that may be played either individually or simultaneously. The first group included compressor, chorus, overdrive and distortion. The second group had flanger, phaser, tremolo and delay. The third group included four types of reverb. The Effects section also included a noise reduction circuit and a guitar tuner.

Tone Room Software
The VT20X included a complimentary download of the Vox Tone Room software application for PC, Max or iOS. Using this software required that the amp be connected to a computer or mobile device via a USB port found on the VT20X control panel.

The Tone Lab software provided a graphical interface with the VT20X to assist in adjusting tone parameters. It also increased the number of available tone programs from 33 to 60 and the number of amp models from 11 to 20.

Power Amplifier
The solid state VT20X power amplifier was rated 20 watts RMS at 5 ohms. There was no provision for additional external speakers.

External Power Supply
The VT20X was equipped with a Korg KA390 external power supply. This 12 volt, 2.5A "wall wart" power supply was designed to automatically adjust to the local mains voltage, whether it be 120, 220 or 240 VAC.

Optional Foot Switches
Vox offered the VFS2A and VFS5 foot switches as optional accessories for the VT20X. The simpler VFS2A allowed the selection between two parameters. The five button VFS5 foot pedal controlled bank and program selection with a tap of a toe.
