Vox created the battery operated AC30 Stereo Radio by replacing the control and preamp section from the AC2RV mini guitar amplifer with an AM-FM Stereo tuner. The AC2RV and AC30 Radio shared the same two-watt stereo power amplifier and twin 3" speakers.

Like the AC2RV, the Vox AC Stereo Radio featured an injection molded plastic enclosure including realistic details such as corners, vents, handles and a gold plated logo. The textured surface of the cabinet simulated the appearance of traditional smooth black Vynide vinyl covering. Solid black grill fabric covered the speaker area.

The AC30 Radio included an LED display that displayed either the radio frequency or the time. The AC30 Radio also included search buttons to locate available stations.

Power was provided by either six AA cells or the optional KA183 AC adaptor. A removable back panel provided access to the battery compartment.
