1966 US Vox Catalog

1967 US Vox Catalog

The Vox Spitfire was offered in the 1966 "Vox: It's Whats Happening - Beatles Cover" and the 1967 "Vox: It's What's Happening - Raiders Cover" catalogs. A reprint of either of these catalogs is available at North Coast Music. The styling of the solid body, three pickup Spitfire was reminiscent of a Fender Stratocaster that had been stretched diagonally.

The 1966 US Vox catalog described the Spitfire guitar as follows: "Contoured body, quick flick 3 position pick-up switch, 3 pick-ups, rosewood fingerboard, true spring action vibrato, adjustable master bridge channel, 6 individual string bridges, sunburst or popular colors. 2-way string damper."

The 1966 US Vox price list indicated that the retail price of the Spitfire was $249.90 USD with case. Adjusting the 1966 price for fifty years of inflation, the Spitfire would retail today for about $1699.

The Spitfire was produced for Vox in Italy by Eko. A decal on the back of the head stock states: "Made by Vox in Italy."

My thanks to Roger Tessier for allowing me to take photographs of his Vox Spitfire guitar for the Vox Showroom.
