Introduced in 2020, the limited edition Vox Starstream Type 1 "Plus W" was produced for the Japanese market. It expanded on the design of the Starstream Type I Plus guitars released in 2018. Vox announced five updates for the new "Plus W" models.
Although the first release photos shown on this page do not show this, the "Plus W" guitars featured a true two-octave, twenty-four fret maple neck, unlike the twenty-two fret neck on prior Starstream models. The guitar maintained it's prior 25⅛" scale. The "Plus W" models replaced the original Vox XLM pickups with a pair of Dimarzio "Triple 30" pickups. The Areos-D modeling circuitry was optimized for the upgraded pickups. A new feature named "Passive Mode" allowed the Dimarzio pickups to bypass the Areos-D module. The headstock was updated with precision Gotoh tuning machines. The outer frame of the "Plus W" guitars was painted in a marbleized finish that featured shades of green, blue, yellow or silver, dependant on model. The inner bodies were finished in transparent black.
