The six string, single pickup, first-generation "Stroller" electric guitar was introduced by Vox as a student grade model in the 1962 Vox "Choice of the Stars" print catalog.

The profile of this early Vox Stroller body resembled the shape of the Guyatone LG-50 guitar popularized in the late fifties by Hank Marvin of the Shadows and Cliff Richards fame. Prior to the 1962 introduction of the Stroller guitar, Vox also offered a privately branded Vox LG-50 guitar that JMI purchased from Guyatone.

The 1961-62 Stroller guitar featured a chrome plated single coil pickup along with a tone and volume control. A dual pickup version, the "Shadow," was also offered.

The headstock of the 1961-62 Stroller guitar was equipped with a "three on a side" strip tuners with plastic buttons. The name "Stroller" appeared in green script on the top of the headstock. The nineteen fret bolt-on neck included a 1⅝" wide slotted plastic nut with a zero fret. Rather than having an adjustable truss rod, the neck was reinforced with an embedded steel rod. The Stroller utilized a basic string claw tailpiece and a floating wood and plastic bridge.

The laminated plywood bodies and rosewood topped sycamore necks for the 1961-62 Stroller guitars were fabricated for Vox by Stuart Darkins & Co, a furniture maker in Shoeburyness England. These parts were then shipped to JMI Vox facilities for assembly.

The Stroller guitar first appeared in the 1962 Vox product catalog where it was described, "Fine quality solo rhythm solid electric guitar, high grade Vox electric strings and pickup. Red or white cellulose finish, polished neck, separate tone and volume controls."

Vox also offered the Stroller in "build it yourself" form as the "Pacific Kit." It was described in the 1962 Vox "Choice of the Stars" catalog as "
Build your own guitar and save £££. This fine electric guitar can be assembled very simply in just one hour. Full size professional model complete with instructions. Ideal for the "Do It Yourself" enthusiast. Comes to you in a sturdy transport carton."
