The first generation Vox Virage single and double cutaway guitars were introduced at the 2008 Winter NAMM show. Three years later, Vox introduced Virage II, an updated model replacing the original Virage series.
The distinguishing features between the original Vox Virage and its successor, the Virage II, were limited to the pickups and fretboard inlays. The original Virage featured a pair of "Three-90" pickups, a collaboration between Vox R&D and DiMarzio. The Virage II used a pair of "CoAxe" pickups, designed and produced in-house by Vox. While the fretboards of original Virage guitars had block inlays, Virage II guitars had a more discreet "wave" motif inlay.
All other specifications for the Virage II, which utilized the same 3D carved body, hardware, pickup controls and rosewood topped neck as the original Virage, are available on the Virage webpage within the Vox Showroom.
Vox CoAxe Pickups
The Three-90 pickups in the original Virage could deliver clean "single-coil" tones, gritty P90 "crunch" and hot humbucker "lead" tones. Vox developed the CoAxe pickup for the Virage II to improve the output of the Three-90 single-coil setting while adding emphasis to the attack of the P90 and lead modes.

The Three-90 pickup from the original Virage contained three conventional side-by-side coils that could be electronically combined in various ways to create single coil, P90 or humbucker tones. The CoAxe pickups from the Virage II had two concentric coils. The inner coil was a traditional single-coil pickup including six individual pole pieces to increase output and string attack. The outer coil featured an innovative design that rejected hum and noise without reducing the pickup's brilliant treble response.
By choosing between tapped and fully wound configurations of the inner and outer coils, these CoAxe pickups produced a wide range of single coil, P90 and humbucker classic tones.
Country of Origin
The VGSC and VGDC Vox Virage II guitars were designed by Vox at their G-ROK facility in Novato California. While some Virage II guitars were produced in Japan by Fujigen, production was eventually shifted to Headway Guitars of Matsumoto City, Nagano, Japan.

Special Edition Virage II "Butterfly" Guitars
Vox introduced six unique limited edition Virage II guitars at the 2011 Musikmesse music trade show in Frankfurt Germany. In addition to offering three unique finishes, these guitars featured elegantly crafted Paua shell butterfly inlays on the headstock and fretboard.
These limited edition Virage "Butterfly" guitars were produced for Vox by Headway Guitars of Matsumoto City, Nagano, Japan. Headway specialized in handcrafted, limited edition guitars constructed by their three master luthiers, Yasuo Momose, Mastato Yasui and Arata Furihata.
Single cutaway VG2SC-M11-01 / Double Cutaway VG2DC-M11-01
Mahogany tops and backs stained green and red, respectively; silver grain filler then applied. The result is a unique "hair-line" finish similar to the fur of a fox. Includes hard shell case.
Single cutaway VG2SC-M11-02 / Double Cutaway VG2DC-M11-02
Flamed maple tops with mahogany backs. Finished in Black Cherry and Transparent Black respectively, no binding. Includes hard shell case.
Single cutaway VG2SC-M11-03 / Double Cutaway VG2DC-M11-03
Mahogany tops, back and sides with an natural oil finish and rosewood grained binding. Includes hard shell case.
