The TO-68 Heathkit/Vox Jaguar Organ Tone Generator Card
In addition to production by both GEM and EME in Italy, the Vox Jaguar Organ was also produced in kit form by the Heath Corporation of Benton Harbor, Michigan under the "Heathkit" brand name. For $349, one would buy a very organized carton full of electronic parts and an assembly manual. The Heathkit TO-68 Jaguar is essentially identical to the factory V304E version of the organ with a few adaptations for construction by novices.
The twelve tone generator cards (Heathkit #247-1071-1) supplied in the TO-68 Heathkit Vox Jaguar are nearly identical to the factory V304E version aside from two differences. First, the upper side of the Heathkit tone generator circuit board is imprinted with a complete, silk screened part legend to assist in correct parts placement (see upper image above). Second, the lower side of the tone generator boards have been treated with a green resist ink. This resist ink prohibits solder from flowing outside of the desired circuit pads on the board (see lower image above).
The actual board-level components included with the TO-68 Heathkit Jaguar are also identical to the V304E factory version of the organ, including seven SFT351 germanium transistors in the main oscillator and divide-down circuitry. |
